e who wish to spread their views by publishing them might, for instance, be those who feel most strongly involved—both for and against; they might be "moral entrepreneurs," to use Howard Becker's phrase. Yet, in spite of the possibly nonrandom sentiment expressed in physicians' printed statements on marijuana, we must also remember that these are the views that tend to have the greatest impact. The American Medical Association makes an official pronouncement, reported by major newspapers and magazines, which means that a position is congealed and more easily utilized in the continuing debate. Published statements take on a life of their own. Although the question of whether or not physicians' published statements are typical is an empirical question, and not one on which we have an answer, nonetheless, the basic thrust of these statements is overwhelmingly negative, largely cast in the form of a pathology model,5] and used by the antipot lobby to verify its own position. Thus, although we will encounter some diversity of orientations regarding drug and drug use, it is possible to discern a relatively consistent ideology, both in "official" and in working day-to-day terms. In the remainder of this chapter I intend to elaborate on the mainstream medical position on marijuana use. This position is made up of a number of separate elements. Let us examine each element. Drug Abuse In the typical medical view, marijuana use is by definition "abuse." Drugs are taken for therapeutic purposes, to alleviate pain, to aid adjustment, to cure a disease, and must be prescribed by a physician. Marijuana has no known or recognized, professionally legitimated role whatsoever. The human body operates best, in the absence of a pathology, without drugs. Drugs are unnecessary without illness. The purpose of getting high is seen by this view as illegitimate. All use of marijuana is abuse; all use of drugs outside of a medical context is in and of itself the misuse of the purposes for which drugs were designed. The AMA writes: "... drug abuse is] taking drugs without professional advice or direction."6] Marijuana is hallucinogenic and has no medical use or indication.... Feelings of being "high" or "down" may be experienced. Thought processes may be disturbed. Time, space, distance and sound may be distorted. Marijuana does not produce physical addiction, but it does produce significant dependence. And it has been known to produce psychosis. With this description of the effects of its use and the total lack of any medical indication for its use, medically it must be stated that any use of marijuana is the misuse of a drug.7] The damning constituent of marijuana, like all "recreational" drugs, is that it is used to get high; the normal state is seen as desirable—the state of intoxication, pa are marijuana plants illegal in Belfast Amsterdam Marijuana Seeds Coca Seeds Perchase Netherlands I'm now in the process of drying and curing with the intention of selecting the best mother afterwards for regen. and cloning. I must say that I'm disappointed in the quality at this point. The buds I've smoked so far have had a really nice taste and are very smooth to smoke. The high, however, leaves something to be desired. Although I haven't sampled the best bits on each plant I have yet to come across a NLH bud which flattens me. espondents on the other hand attracted more than a few scattered arrests,
except for participation in political demonstrations. Over a third of their
buy coca seeds amsterdamm arrests (nineteen
out of fifty-five) were for protesting, picketing, or demonstrating—nonviolently. We only
reveal our political biases if we conceive of these "crimes" as criminal in the conventional
sense. If we wish to hold that by smoking marijuana, our sense of ideological involvement
will be heightened, we will please the proclivities of the marijuana-smoking subculture,
and probably proponents of the "far right" as well, who oppose both marijuana and
political demonstrations. But to call this activity a crime in any but the formal sense
makes us a part of the ideological machinery which structures the "politics of reality" by
giving a discrediting label to anything that opposes its definition of the truth.
If we search the remaining arrests, a few do not fall within our conception of a
"conventional" crime. One interviewee, an artist, dancer, jewelry designer, and mime
performer, was arrested for wearing a painted mime face, illegal under an obscure local
ordinance. Thus, a "crime" was committed, and an arrest made. Can we say, therefore, that
the marijuana subculture had anything to do with this particular respondent's "criminal
tendencies"? Twelve of the fifty-five arrests took place before the respondent was "turned
on" to marijuana. (A policeman scrutinizing this would conclude that it is a "criminal
type" who eventually turns to drugs.)
In view of the police supposition that marijuana causes crime, particularly crimes of
violence, it might be instructive to look at the relationship, if any, that exists between the
rate of crime and the amount of marijuana the respondent smokes. The reasoning would
be that, if it is true that the drug stimulates a physical and mental state which is dangerous
and criminogenic, then the more the Coca Seeds Perchase Netherlands person experiences this state, the greater his
likelihood of committing crimes, and the greater his chances of being arrested. We would
expect the daily smoker, who is high from two to possibly eighteen hours every day,
highly likely to be arrested, because he is in a "criminal" state of mind for
buy coca seeds amsterdamm such long
periods of time. To test this proposition (an informal test, neither rigorous nor conclusive)
we excluded all the "political" crimes (arrests for nonviolent demonstrations).
(Interestingly enough, these were by far most common among the least frequent smokers,
and least common among the most
buy coca seeds amsterdamm frequent smokers.)
buy coca seeds amsterdamm We are then left with twenty-one
arrests for
buy coca seeds amsterdamm "serious" crimes committed by fifteen respondents. These crimes include
nonmarijuana narcotics possession, disorderly conduct, drunkenness, burglary, assault,
auto theft, serving liquor to a minor, and larceny. Do heavy marijuana smokers commit
these crimes more frequently than infrequent smokers? We are surprised to discover that
according to our study, they do not commit crimes
